Nutritional Value of EasiYo
Nutrient-Dense
For relatively few calories, EasiYo is full of protein, calcium, essential vitamins and minerals to help provide the elements for growth and development of a strong constitution.
The Increase of Digestibility
Yogurt is more quickly and easily digested than milk. The proteins, calcium, sugars and other nutrients undergo a partial breakdown and are more quickly absorbed. Also the lactose (milk sugar) is converted into lactic acid which improves digestion and hinders the growth of harmful microbes.
Better Utilization of Food Components
The vast number of lactic bacteria in EasiYo yogurt contributes not only to an accelerated digestion of the yogurt itself, but also helps the digestion of other foods. This results in a better absorption and use of other food elements. The yogurt cultures pre-digest the sugar found in milk so that 90% of a serving can be digested by the body in one hour, compared to only 30% of an equivalent amount of milk. That means glucose can be delivered quickly to the bloodstream to raise low blood sugar levels.
The Synthesis of Vitamins
Lactic bacteria in yogurt are able to produce certain complex B vitamins (thiamine, riboflavin and niacin). The synthesis of folic acid (essential for the nervous system development) is particularly important in fresh yogurt.
A Source of Protein and Calcium
Protein is constantly needed by the body to manufacture and repair tissue. It is the building material of the body, and every tissue in the body, whether muscle, skin, blood or nerve, contains it. The fact that the protein content of EasiYo yogurt is lifted by additional milk solids, means that it is an even more attractive source of protein compared to milk.
EasiYo yogurt is an excellent source of protein. The protein in EasiYo yogurt is pre-digested by the lactic bacteria during fermentation, so that a 30% greater amount is assimilated by the body compared to milk protein.
EasiYo yogurt is a source of calcium which keeps bones and teeth hard and strong. Each cup of EasiYo yogurt delivers 47.5% or more of the recommended daily requirement, which means EasiYo yogurt offers half again as much nutritional calcium as milk. Also EasiYo yogurt can be a good source of calcium for those with lactose intolerance.
Osteoporosis is a serious health problem, especially for women, and studies have shown that most people consume far less calcium than the daily recommended levels. Fewer than 1 in 6 teenage girls in the USA get even half their daily requirement of calcium. Later in life they are prone to the crippling and painful effects of osteoporosis. Prevention is the best cure! Many calcium supplements are not readily or effectively absorbed. EasiYo yogurt is an excellent source of easily absorbed calcium.
A Substitute for High Calorie Foods
By substituting EasiYo yogurt for high calorie foods such as cream, mayonnaise, cream cheese of sour cream, you can help keep your weight under control without giving up the joys of eating. EasiYo yogurt has approximately one tenth of the calories of mayonnaise and one fifth of the calories of cream. EasiYo yogurt comes in whole milk and reduced fat varieties.
Lactic Cultures and Cholesterol
Cardiovascular disease (clogging of the arteries of the heart and other vital organs) is the leading cause of death in our time. Cholesterol must be reduced to lower the risk of heart disease. Cholesterol is manufactured by the body in the liver. It also enters the body through the foods we eat. Although the research continues, orotic and hydroxy-methyl glutaric acid in yogurt cultures are among the suggested reasons indicating yogurt's role in helping to reduce blood levels of cholesterol.
Lactose Intolerance (Milk Intolerance)
It is a well known fact that about 70% of the world population are lactose maldigesters i.e. They have insufficient lactase enzymes which are essential for the digestion of lactose (milk sugar). This is especially important for babies and older people who often have difficulty digesting milk properly. Yogurt has the ability to change the chemistry of the milk, making the presence of these enzymes unnecessary! The lactic cultures present in EasiYo yogurt break down the lactose into galactose and glucose, two sugars that nearly everyone can absorb. People with a lactose intolerance can usually eat yogurt without any discomfort, making it an excellent food for the very young, the elderly, the ill and the convalescent.
Lipids
People forget that lipids are an integral part of a balanced diet. Humans have a double requirement for lipids in that they possess both storage fats: made up of saturated fatty acids which serve as a source of energy or as a protection for vital organs.
Structural fats: which, with proteins, forms many of the essential membranes in animal cells, particularly in areas like the brain. It is essential, therefore, that the human diet provides an adequate sourceof fats, specially for children. Malnutrition in children is often associated with a lack of calories to metabolise available protein.
Although much of the yogurt sold in industrialised countries is produced from skimmed milk, traditional yogurt has always contained some 3-4% milk fat. EasiYo Natural and Greek yogurt are ones that provide these levels.
The Side Effects of Antibiotic Therapy
The prolonged use of some antibiotics can have the effect of destroying lactic bacteria from the digestive system, leaving it without defence. Eating plenty of live EasiYo yogurt during and after a course of antibiotics can help replace the 'friendly' bacteria in the gut. This reduces the likelihood of an upset stomach and diarrhoea caused by the drugs. The yogurt will also help stimulate the re-growth of the lactic bacteria.
Gastro-intestinal Infections
These are more often found in children rather than adults and are bacteria such as Salmonella, Staphylococcus etc. They are often a result of accidental contamination, impure water, contaminated food or infectious microbes transmitted from others. Freshly-made yogurt is often prescribed by doctors to inhibit their growth and speed their passage through the intestines.
